About KitWatchdog
KitWatchdog is an independent price-history project. It watches what official UK shops charge for 3D printers, laser engravers and cutters, 3D scanners and filament. It does not sell that kit, take payment, or publish a personal name behind the site.
Where the prices come from
The live sources are the public catalogues of xTool UK (uk.xtool.com), Elegoo UK (uk.elegoo.com) and Anycubic UK (uk.anycubic.com). Each is a Shopify shop that publishes /products.json. Their robots.txt files allow that path. uk.anycubic3d.com serves the same Anycubic catalogue, so it is not fetched twice.
The collector identifies itself as KitWatchdogBot, waits about a second between pages, and stops if a shop's robots.txt disallows the product JSON. Prices are stored in pence. A new history point is written about every two hours, which is also how often the scheduled job runs.
What is still missing
- Bambu Lab UK. UK prices are not published as a public Shopify products.json. Add an affiliate or partner feed that implements SourceAdapter.
- Creality UK. Add a source adapter once a public catalogue or product feed is confirmed. Do not guess prices.
- Snapmaker. Add a source adapter once a public UK catalogue or product feed is confirmed.
- 3DJake UK. No public products.json is wired up. A product-feed adapter can sit next to the Shopify one.
- Amazon UK. Do not crawl Amazon. Use the Product Advertising API when access keys exist, and AMAZON_UK_ASSOCIATE_TAG for outbound links.
Corrections
If a price or product is wrong, email hello@kitwatchdog.co.uk. There is no public list of staff, and there is not meant to be one.
